UPDATE: Car Struck by Train After Breaking Down on Tracks in North Shore

Emergency services were called to Station Street in North Shore on Sunday night after a frightening incident where a car broke down on active train tracks.

The vehicle, driven by an elderly woman who was the only occupant, became stuck in the middle of the crossing shortly after 8:00 PM. Unable to move the car herself, she was forced to watch as a passenger train, travelling at low speed, collided with the car and caused significant damage to its right side.

Elderly Driver Assessed at Scene

Paramedics assessed the woman at the scene. Thankfully, she was not injured and did not require hospital treatment.

There were only a handful of passengers on board the train at the time of the collision, and no injuries were reported among them either.

Once the intersection was cleared and deemed safe, normal train operations resumed on the line.
